Tips and explanations
The guides below are the explanations we give on site, written down. They cover the parts, the wear, the seasons and the upgrades, so you can revisit them whenever the door raises a question.

Repair & Maintenance
My car bumped the door. Do I need an inspection if it still works?
A door that still runs after a bump can still be carrying the effects of it. The force travels from the dent into the roller, the track, the bottom bracket and the cable on that side, and any of them can be nudged enough to change how the door hangs. An inspection follows that path and tells you whether the mark is cosmetic, whether a part needs work, or whether the balance has shifted. Garage Door Safety Inspection
What kind of doors and openers do you service?
Residential sectional doors of every common construction: steel, insulated steel, aluminum and glass, wood and composite, single and double width, with torsion springs above the header or extension springs beside the horizontal tracks. Openers of all the usual types are covered too, including chain drive, belt drive, screw drive and wall-mounted jackshaft units. If the door is a one-piece tilt-up or a commercial rolling door, mention that when booking so the right hardware comes along. Garage Door Tune-Up
Are the springs involved in an off-track door?
Frequently, in one of two ways. Springs that are worn, broken or mismatched to the door's weight make the opener carry a load it was never meant to, dragging the sections out of line. And whenever cables must be re-seated or replaced, the spring tension has to be released and rewound to do it. The technician assesses the springs at the start and tells you whether they are part of the fix. Off-Track Garage Door Reset
What happens if my door's design has been discontinued?
It happens with older doors, since embossing patterns, joint profiles and colours change over the years. The technician looks for the nearest current section from the same manufacturer and describes how it would differ in look and fit. Sometimes the difference is minor and acceptable; sometimes the joint no longer mates. In that case the options are a section from a compatible series, or replacing the door as a whole, and both are explained before anything is ordered. Garage Door Panel Replacement

Springs & Hardware
How often should the whole door be inspected?
Industry guidance suggests a monthly visual and listening check by the homeowner, with the door closed and then in motion, and a yearly visit from a trained door systems technician who goes over springs, cables, rollers, hinges, track, balance and the opener's safety functions. Rollers themselves are worth a look twice a year, and they belong on the list whenever springs or cables are being replaced. A door used many times a day earns more frequent attention. Does hinge work affect the springs or the door's balance?
Hinge replacement leaves the springs untouched, since the door stays closed and the counterbalance is not unloaded. Balance is checked at the end all the same, because a door the opener has to drag is one of the main reasons hinges fail early. If the door drifts up or sinks when lifted by hand and released, the technician explains the spring adjustment needed and offers it as its own decision. Garage Door Hinge Replacement
Can a low-headroom or high-lift layout be fitted to my existing door?
Often, yes, and it is a track job with a spring job attached. Low-headroom dual track lets a door open under a low ceiling or a beam, while high-lift track carries the door further up the wall to clear a car lift or storage. Each changes the horizontal run, the curve, the top fixtures and usually the cable drums and spring turns. The technician measures headroom, sideroom and backroom first and confirms the door suits the change. Garage Door Track Repair or Replacement
What is the cable drum, and when does it need replacing too?
The drum is the grooved wheel on each end of the torsion shaft that the cable winds onto as the door opens. Its grooves guide the cable in a single layer and its shape sets how the door is balanced through its travel. A drum is replaced when the grooves are worn or cracked, the cable slot is damaged, or it has spun on the shaft and scored it. Drums are changed in pairs. Garage Door Cable Replacement

Openers & Access
Why does my door go back up when I try to close it?
The opener believes something is in the way. Either the photo-eye beam near the floor was broken, misaligned or blocked, or the door met more resistance than its force setting allows, often from a frozen seal, stiff rollers or a travel limit set slightly too long so the door hits the slab. The indicator light on the head unit usually tells which of the two it was, and the technician confirms it by testing rather than guessing. Garage Door Opener Diagnosis and Repair
What is the trolley, and why would it get stuck?
The trolley is the carriage that rides along the rail, pulled by the chain, with the door arm hooked to it. It gets stuck when the travel limits creep and it is driven onto the stop bolt at the head end or the stop tab at the door end, where the motor hums but nothing moves. The technician slackens the chain, runs the trolley off the stop under power, and pulls the limit back so it stops short in future. Chain-Drive Opener Repair
Can I adjust the belt tension myself?
The adjustment nut is reachable and some owners do, but there are two things to get right. The operator must be unplugged and the door released first, and the spring must be set to the maker's length rather than tightened until the sag disappears, since an over-tight belt is noisy and hard on the motor. After any change, the reversal tests should be repeated. Many people prefer to have it done during a service. Belt-Drive Opener Repair
The door is frozen to the floor. Why does the opener reverse?
Because the operator is protecting the door. Its force setting is tuned to the small effort a balanced door needs, so a seal glued to the concrete by ice registers as an obstruction and the door heads back up rather than ripping the rubber or bowing the top panel. Loosen the seal with a plastic scraper or a hair dryer along the sill, then try again; a shovelled threshold before a cold night keeps it from recurring. Garage Door Opener Replacement

Installation & Upgrades
Can the existing tracks stay with the new door?
A replacement is planned with track designed for the selected sections and hardware. Door thickness, completed weight, roller position, available headroom and operator location can all affect compatibility. Using the matched track package lets the sections and counterbalance operate as the system was designed, with geometry that can be checked during installation. Sectional Garage Door Replacement
Why are new springs selected for the replacement door?
Counterbalance springs are chosen around the completed door's weight, height, track arrangement and intended travel. Insulation, steel skins, windows and reinforcement all contribute to that load. A spring combination from a different assembly may provide unsuitable torque even when it physically fits. Matching the counterbalance to the ordered door supports manageable manual movement and orderly cable travel. Insulated Steel Garage Door Installation
How do insulation and weather seals fit into the project?
Insulated section construction can add stiffness, comfort, and weight, while perimeter seals limit drafts and ordinary moisture entry around the closed door. These choices are coordinated with the wind-rated configuration rather than selected separately. Bottom seal contact, side weatherstrip, and top seal alignment are checked during handover so the reinforced assembly also closes neatly for daily use. Wind-Rated Garage Door Replacement
How should I choose the panel pattern for my house?
Start with fixed proportions already on the exterior: window widths, masonry lines, roof shapes, columns and entry-door details. A simpler pattern can settle a busy elevation, while cross-buck or divided-panel designs add stronger character to a plain wall. Scale matters across wide doors, so the pattern should be viewed as a full-opening drawing or sample rather than a small swatch alone. Carriage-House Garage Door Installation
